William Morris Economy

Article illustration for STIR magazine on the Idea of a WIlliam Morris economy- I think the author sums it up better than I could-

The flat white economy is one which is all about urban hipsters, computers and £5 cereal. The William Morris economy is about democratising the idea of craft and creativity for everyone. In a world where routine tasks are increasingly automated, a William Morris economy would be one which celebrated the things only humans can do - create handcrafted items, amazing haircuts, making food.

I think the way our economy and culture is developing is taking us in this direction - a polarisation between the very cheap things machines can make and the very beautiful things that humans can create (which is where all the value will be).
