I produced this image during my studies after reading about the incredible role of animals in the first world war.

Mercy Dogs were used in WW1 by all sides,  trained to bring medical supplies to wounded soldiers on the front. If they were beyond treatment, the dogs would stay with the wounded soldiers providing a final comfort and ensuring that they they didn't spend their last moments alone.
